A Peek Into The Inspiration Behind My Design

Inspiration can come in many different forms. As an Interior Designer, I find inspiration from fashion, nature and my travels when coming up with schemes for my clients. For me, there is not one specific design style. I personally have my own design style preferences but everyone is different so I take what clients tell me in our initial meeting and meld them together with mine to come up with the project’s overall design aesthetic.

Having just returned from a design summit in Amsterdam and Brugge, I am excited to incorporate some new found inspiration into my design with clients who are looking for that easy elegance, neutral, calming vibe. Muted colors have a way of adding such warmth to a room without being too loud. In fact, in a recent refresh of my clients’ living room, I used a gorgeous lime wash on the walls giving her living room an elegant touch of color.

Another client was looking for that same feel so we used muted neutrals throughout her condo living room and bedroom.

I’m currently working on a primary bedroom and living room refresh for a returning client and plan on creating a design palette inspired by past projects as well as some fresh ideas from the summit. After going through the projects on my website, she came back to this project (images above) as inspiration for her own primary bedroom suite. One other image she finds inspiring is that of the hallway for this project. This is also something she would like for us to consider when designing her upstairs hallway which leads into the primary bedroom. As always, I never replicate a design but I certainly will take this project and create the perfect primary bedroom suite and hallway unique to this client.

Inspiration doesn’t end once a project of mine has finished. In fact, I tell my clients to always be on the lookout for decor to add to their homes. Stop overthinking things and just collect items that inspire you either through nature (walks on the beach or hikes in the forest) and while on vacation. A client of mine bought these cool Moroccan containers that look amazing in her home and have a story to tell. That’s exactly the type of inspiration I love!
